In the darkness of the night
When I’ve lost the will to fight
I feel You carry me into the light of day
And when I stumble into sin
You forgive me yet again
If I will only turn and call upon Your name
CHORUS
For the Lord, our God, is the faithful God
Showing mercy unto us
Yes, the Lord, our God, is the faithful God
Who keeps His promises
Yes, He keeps His promises
BRIDGE
Faithful, faithful and true
Faithful forever
Faithful, faithful and true is our God
I wrote this song years ago as a simple praise song and a testimony to God’s faithfulness. Back then, it had sort of a “Bob Fitts / calypso” type of feel. Very happy and bouncy. Frankly, I had all but forgotten about it until someone pulled it out of the songbook at a recent gathering with some family friends. The music didn’t do much for me, but the words ministered to me all over again. I set out to record it, but with a completely new melody and rhythmic feel that, in my mind, is what it should have been in the first place.
