VERSE 1
You huddle in your buildings made of glass and stone
Looking for a touch from Me so you won’t feel alone
But I’m out here in the streets with those
Forgotten ones who have no place to sleep
I try to send you out, but you keep coming back
“Restore”, “revive”, “renew”, to get you back on track
You’re so busy running back and forth
That you don’t have the time to feed My sheep
You show Me all your sacrifices, “Lord look what we’ve done”
But can you show Me how you’ve been an obedient one?

CHORUS
I gave you everything when I gave you My son
My very life in you to share with everyone
You cry for greater power every time you call
But I gave My all
Now what more do you want?

VERSE 2
You’re so enamored with reality TV shows
You blame the devil every time you stub your toes
But half a world away from you
They’re suffering and dying for My name
Your dreams and visions tell you glory’s on the way
And you’ll be the “chosen few” to usher in the day
But I hope that you can tear yourselves
Away from Sunday supper and The Game
I’ve blessed your lives abundantly beyond what you deserve
But tell me, is it truly Me or the blessings that you serve?

CHORUS
I gave you everything when I gave you My son
My very life in you to share with everyone
You cry for greater riches every time you call
But I gave My all
Now what more do you want?

BRIDGE
And you try so hard to be like the world
That you’ve all but forgotten who I am
How I long for you to return to Me
Before the trumpet sounds and the world you love
Comes to an end
I gave you everything…

CHORUS
I gave you everything when I gave you My son
My very life in you to share with everyone
You cry for greater power every time you call
But I gave My all
When I took the fall, I gave My all
Now what more do you want?

Behind the Music

It’s pretty uncharacteristic of me to get all “preachy” in my songs…but the words just came out of me. This one is pretty harsh - though I think relevant with regard to the state of the modern Church. But I’ll be the first to say it applies to me just as much, if not more so, than anyone else.
